GCSE Science revision: Biology, Chemistry and Physics

One routine that works across all three sciences, with tips for each.

How the AQA science exams work

Each AQA GCSE science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) has two papers, covering different topics, and questions range from multiple choice to longer written answers. Foundation and Higher papers differ. Check AQA's specification for the exact format.

A routine that works

  • Learn a topic from the notes, then test yourself straight away with questions.
  • Keep a list of key terms and be able to define each in a sentence.
  • Retry questions you got wrong after a few days.
  • Practise calculations and units regularly, especially in Physics and Chemistry.

Tips for each science

  • Biology: learn processes as steps in order, and use the key terms exactly.
  • Chemistry: balance equations carefully and show every step of a calculation.
  • Physics: write the equation, substitute with units, then give the answer with its unit.
